HPS Home Power Solutions receives 2020 Handelsblatt Energy Award for its Hydrogen Power Storage System
Berlin-based HPS Home Power Solutions is pleased to announce it has received the 2021 Handelsblatt Energy Award in the category of “Smart City” for its picea system, the first marketable independent, solar-hydrogen powered CO2 free home energy system worldwide. The award was given by a top-class jury.
Based on a combination of solar energy and innovative hydrogen technology, the picea system is the first year-round, CO2 free, off-grid power supply for one- and two-family houses. The picea system is highly effective with about 90% energy efficiency and offers more than 100 times the storage capacity of standard household-storage batteries.
We are extremely pleased to receive this award recognizing the development of our picea system into a marketable clean energy solution”
Zeyad Abul-Ella, co-founder and managing director of HPS Home Power Solutions said.
”HPS has made hydrogen technology more widely available to household consumers for the first time. Our product will be indispensable in the smart cities of the future. The Handelsblatt award is a recognition of the considerable reduction of CO2 emissions picea offers and the value of German innovation in the field of climate protection technology“
he added.
“Without sustainable energy generation and storage capability, in addition to smart grids, climate protection goals are not achievable. The Handelsblatt Energy Award aims to promote the technologies catalyzing this development. With the market-ready systems for private residences offered by the award winner, many private households can now do their part to protect our planet”
said Dr. Olaf Heil, Technical Managing Director of Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, board member of the Energy Academy and Handelsblatt Energy Award jury member.
Since 2015 the Handelsblatt Energy Awards have distinguished outstanding projects in the energy industry that use renewable power sources and promote storage and distribution. The annual award is given in four categories: Industry, Mobility, Smart City and Start-up. The Smart City category includes scalable business models with a high degree of innovation and potential whose added value lies in digitization, networking, energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
About picea
picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for one and two-family houses. The energy surpluses achieved on sunny days from a photovoltaic system are stored as green hydrogen and make electricity and heat in the dark season available again. So picea provides year-round a CO2 free full power supply and also reduces heating costs. Per year a picea system avoids approx. 3 tons of CO2 and thus binds the amount of CO2 of 130 mature Spruce trees.
About HPS Home Power Solutions
HPS develops and produces integrated systems for storage and use of solar energy for single- and two-family houses. The Berlin-based company was founded in 2014 by Zeyad Abul-Ella and Dr. Henrik Colell and stands for security, independence and sustainability in the decentralized power supply. The world’s first HPS system picea is electricity storage, heating support and living space ventilation in one compact product. For further information please visit: www.homepowersolutions.de/en
About Handelsblatt Energy Awards and Energy Academy
The Handelsblatt Energy Awards recognizes concepts, products, best practices and total integrated solutions that contribute sustainably to the success of the energy transition. Condition is, that submitted projects have at least been tested in practice. A top-class jury made up of energy experts nominates five finalists in each category. The respective winners are determined by all around 100 members of the Energy Academy. The Energy Academy consists of engineers, scientists, Managing Directors, board members of energy companies, professors, environmental researchers, managers and politicians.
