HPS Home Power Solutions joins the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance

Berlin, 17 May 2021

Berlin-based HPS Home Power Solutions, provider of picea, the world’s first home solar-hydrogen power plant for completely independent carbon-free electricity use, today announced that it is joining the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance. The Alliance was set up by the EU Commission and is Europe’s leading initiative in support of a sustainable hydrogen economy. It currently has more than 1,000 members, who come from businesses, associations, local authorities, NGOs, and research and financial institutions. The Alliance is expected to play a crucial role in implementing the measures and investment agenda of the new European hydrogen strategy. It is estimated that around €430 billion will be invested in green hydrogen between now and 2030.

Zeyad Abul-Ella — co-founder and Managing Director of HPS Home Power Solutions, commented:

“Green hydrogen will make a significant contribution to the transformation of Europe’s energy supply and thus to the desired decarbonization of many of our continent’s everyday processes. We are delighted to be a member of this group of well-known companies, who are seeking to contribute towards this goal. We also view our membership of the Alliance as acknowledgement of our technological innovation in developing the picea system. Our membership will advance our networking capability within the sector and provide us with technologically and commercially valuable contacts.“

The European Hydrogen Alliance is the largest and most important part of the European hydrogen strategy. Its goal is to develop electrolysis capacities of up to 6,000 MW across Europe by 2024 and of at least 40,000 MW by 2030. The European Commission’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050.

About picea

picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for one and two-family houses. The energy surpluses achieved on sunny days from a photovoltaic system are stored as green hydrogen to make electricity and heat available in the dark season. picea provides year-round, carbon-free full power supply and also reduces heating costs. One picea system avoids approx. 3 tons of CO2 per year, binding as much CO2 as 130 mature Spruce trees. The Picea system has won several prestigious prizes, including the 2021 Handelsblatt Energy Award.
