HPS Home Power Solutions adopts sustainability strategy and aims for climate neutrality by 2026

Berlin, 26. August 2022

HPS Home Power Solutions (HPS), the world’s leading provider of green hydrogen-based year-round electricity storage for buildings, has published its first sustainability strategy. It contains a comprehensive sustainability program that defines targets and measures for the next four years. Among other things, the company has set itself the target of becoming climate-neutral by 2026. To further strengthen the issue of sustainability within the company, an ESG Council (Environment, Social, Governance) has been set up, comprising the CFO as the responsible Management Board member, various divisional managers and a newly appointed Sustainability Manager.

„Sustainability is at the core of our daily activities. With our year-round electricity storage system picea, we enable private homeowners and companies to supply themselves with solar electricity from their own roofs all year round. In this way, we are making a contribution to tackling one of the most pressing tasks of our time – the energy transition. As our company grows, so does our responsibility. That is why we have developed our sustainability strategy, in which we set ourselves ambitious targets. It is central to the long-term success of the company and the satisfaction of our stakeholders“

says Zeyad Abul-Ella, founder and CEO of HPS.

The adopted sustainability strategy covers five fields of action with corresponding targets and operational measures: Employees, Governance and Compliance, Environment and Society, Customers and Products, and Supply Chain. We regularly measure progress in achieving our targets by means of defined key performance indicators.

Sustainable energy supply with energy efficiency and resource conservation
HPS implements measures to increase energy efficiency and conserve resources. By establishing a comprehensive environmental data collection system and analyzing efficiency measures, we aim to reduce our own energy consumption. In addition, CO2 emissions are to be further reduced by switching to green electricity and a sustainable heat supply. Comprehensive analyses of resource utilization and an increase in the proportion of recycled materials will also help to conserve resources. With the installation of the picea electricity storage systems, HPS also supports customers in avoiding CO2 emissions and strengthens their decentralized and sustainable energy supply.

Strengthening governance structures
The company recently joined the UN Global Compact, thereby committing to the ten principles of the United Nations. In addition, HPS has adopted a Code of Conduct and an anti-discrimination policy and will train employees on the contents in line with a values-based corporate culture. This year, HPS is also developing a comprehensive compliance system that will include policies on corruption, money laundering and anti-competition.

In the future, HPS will report annually on the progress made in implementing its sustainability strategy in a progress report. Further information on the sustainability strategy is available on the company’s website under the following link:

About picea

picea is the world’s first commercially available hydrogen-based year-round electricity storage system for buildings. The surplus energy generated by the photovoltaic system on sunny days is stored as green hydrogen and used in the dark season to supply electricity and heat. picea enables a CO2-free full supply of energy all year-round and reduces heating costs. Per year, a picea system avoids about three tons of CO2 emissions and this is equivalent to the amount that 130 spruce trees capture annually. picea has received several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award, the Smarter E Award 2021 and the Sustainability Challenge 2022 of the German Sustainable Building Council.
