HPS Home Power Solutions collaborates with Wohnwerke to equip private homes with picea, the solar-hydrogen-based power supply
Berlin-based HPS Home Power Solutions AG and builders and architects Wohnwerke GmbH are launching a partnership for climate-friendly, private houses. Wohnwerke will offer its customers picea, the hydrogen-based electricity storage system from HPS, as standard equipment for their one-family homes. The combination of modern architecture and innovative energy system is planned to be built soon in a show house in Asperglen-Rudersberg near Stuttgart.
Using solar energy and innovative power-to-gas hydrogen technology, picea enables year-round, carbon free and independent power supply for one- and two-family houses. HPS offers the first marketable solution worldwide in this segment. The picea system also uses the entire process heat from energy generation, storage and usage to reduce the energy required to heat a house. picea has a very high overall utilization rate of around 90%.
picea offers more than 100 times the storage capacity of home batteries available on the market today. The system enables hydrogen technology to be used easily and efficiently in private households for the first time and can thus make a significant contribution to climate protection. The show house will underline the technological market leadership of HPS as well as the commitment and reliability of picea. It demonstrates Wohnwerke’s ambition to equip high-quality homes with an independent power supply and contribute to climate protection.
Zeyad Abul-Ella, Managing Director of HPS Home Power Solutions, comments:
“After the successful start of production of picea, we are very pleased to announce an attractive partner for the distribution of our innovative storage system. Wohnwerke stands for high-quality, modern and ecological living design and therefore fits perfectly with our forward-looking and practical energy solution.“
Lucas Neddermann, managing director of Wohnwerke, adds:
“Our customers are quality and environmentally conscious and are looking for climate-friendly living solutions. We are therefore very pleased to have found the partner with the innovative picea system with whom we are able to realize an energy self-sufficient building. Together with HPS, we are taking a pioneering role in the future market of hydrogen-based energy storage in private homes.“
About picea
picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for one and two-family houses. The energy surpluses achieved on sunny days from a photovoltaic system are stored as green hydrogen to make electricity and heat available in the dark season. picea provides year-round, carbon free full power supply and also reduces heating costs. One picea system avoids approx. 3 tons of carbon dioxide per year, binding as much carbon dioxide as 130 Spruce trees. HPS started delivering the first picea systems in 2019. With contract manufacturing having started in 2020, larger quantities are being produced and become available for delivery in 2021. picea has won several prestigious awards, e.g. the Handelsblatt Energy Award 2021.
